Reliquary by Kris Brooker
A theocratic Commission rules. Patron rules absolute. The people believe they are protected by Saints, and that their city alone survived Armageddon.
When a Duma crime-boss tasks Scout to track down a stolen Relic, what he omits to mention is the Commission want it too, and they’ll kill anyone who stands in their way.
Find the thief, find the relic. Find a heretic, Kat, who’s as dangerous as she is beautiful. Scout puts them both in the crosshairs of a state sanctioned assassin. Their survival now depends on finding the relic.
It’s an uneasy alliance, through a black market in forbidden history into an underworld of religious sects, to find they’ve stumbled upon an ancient prophecy, and into a heretical coup.
All sides desire the relic. Understanding it’s purpose will reshape the future of Mankind.
Religion not really my thing, so wouldn’t have read had I known. So my review? Yes, this is a cracker of a book. The secrets roll of the pages and voices whisper out from the dead. Didn’t see what was coming until I read it at the end. Very satisfying read
Kept my attention until the end.
The world is broken and run by Clerics. No-one knows why? Kat and Scout run a charming hot and cold relationship as the truth emerge from the secrets. Angels and Demons in a script that crosses timelines.
Reliquary doesn’t follow a typical romance formula and is a bit of a genre-bender that won’t fit neatly into any one category. Religious shenanigans, intrigue, love and the past neatly woven into a dystopian future. I love this kind of escapism. Kat and Scout brought it home
I have to admit that I loved this book. It is probably a sin I will have to one day repent for, but hey you only live once.
